A Long Island native, Dr. Richard Sigismondi’s interest in dentistry started early – his first job at the age of fifteen was working in his father’s dental laboratory. His interest in occlusion and its effect on teeth, muscles, and joints began then.
Dr. Sigismondi completed his undergraduate work at Stony Brook University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 1976 and went on to graduate from Washington University School of Dental Medicine in St. Louis Missouri in 1979.
After graduation from dental school, Dr. Sigismondi continued his studies in occlusion with Dr. Peter Dawson at the Dawson Academy where he completed the academy’s curriculum and achieved the status of Dawson Academy Scholar. This body of knowledge, combined with his studies with Dr. Mark Piper at the Piper Education and Research Center, has made for an exquisitely detailed understanding of the relationship between teeth and the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), allowing Dr. Sigismondi to treat even the most complex cases with simplicity and precision.
Dr. Sigismondi completed his Fellowship with the Misch Resnik International Implant Institute on the Mastering Full Arch Implant Restoration as well as Nobel Biocare All-on-4® Treatment, Socket Grafting and Sinus Augmentation. Dr. Sigismondi is a firm advocate of using a surgical guide to plan and place implants to ensure the accuracy of implant placement in order to design and place restorations that are optimum in esthetics, function and comfort.
Dr. Sigismondi’s passion for dentistry is shared with the dental community in his role as a clinical professor at Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine, where he trains residents to understand the complexities of treating the mouth as a whole. He with his wife, Claire have been residents in the community since 1985. They enjoy spending time with their daughter Rachel and their mini dachshund Woody. Dr. Sigismondi has been an avid sailor and loves racing in his sailboat Popeye in the Great South Bay and has been an active member of the Sayville Yacht Club for decades.
